We have been, and continue to be, focused on providing solutions to the most challenging application requirements. BURNDY® is developing products that are specific to the wind industry. We recently launched a revolutionary line of connectors that are field adaptable by the installer. The BREAK-AWAY™ line of compression connectors are designed to provide maximum field flexibility by allowing the installer (using the BREAK-AWAY™ feature) to easily convert a two-hole connector to a one-hole connector on the fly.
Wind power Generation
Wind turbines can be used to produce electricity for a single home or building, or they can be connected to an electricity grid (shown here) for more widespread electricity distribution.
Wind farms currently operate in 34 states which had a generating capacity of more than 25,170MW by the end of 2008.
- US passed Germany to assume the number one position as it relates to wind power production (US = 25,170MW, Germany 23,902MW)
- Wind Energy provides generating capacity to serve more than 5.3 million homes
- A Record 5,249MW of wind power was installed in 2007
- Installed wind power in 2008 was 8,358MW
- Wind power development in Texas continues to outstrip the rest of the country, with total capacity of 6200MW from over 40 different projects, as of September 2008
- Minnesota, Iowa, Washington and Colorado all broke the 1,000 MW mark in cumulative capacity in 2007
