• Is the process safe?
  

  Yes. Training is provided for installing these connectors in a safe, reliable manner. The energy charge used in IMPLO products is highly reliable and predictable, making them safe as well as functional.

• How many IMPLO connectors can be installed at one time?
  

  There is really no limit to the number of IMPLO connectors that can be installed simultaneously. Typically, a crew will install whatever number of splices and deadends is necessary for the particular operation at hand.

• Can IMPLO connectors be used in and around live line areas?
  

  Absolutely. IMPLO installations use non-electric detonators with a type of shock tube that is not affected by electrical fields.

• Can implosive splices be installed on live lines?
  

  Yes. IMPLO connections reduce a lineman's time needed in proximity to the line. Less time in the hazard zone, coupled with the elimination of pumps, hoses and tooling makes IMPLO the safer, preferred choice for live line connection installation.

• Does it make a lot of noise?
  

  Yes, but only for an instant. In most cases, the implosion sounds a bit like a firework. In general, the noise issues are manageable. Experience shows that the concerns of local residents living in the vicinity of the project can be addressed, for the most part, by simply letting them know ahead of time. The issue is not the noise itself... It's being startled by it.

• Is it economical?
  

  Yes. The initial cost is higher than the cost of equivalent hydraulic compression components. However, there are significant labor and time savings. Additionally, the versatility and the elimination of expensive hydraulic equipment result in further cost savings over conventional methods. A recent study found that the IMPLO connection process reduces the time required for deadending a tower by about 60%.

• Will I need any special equipment?
  

  No equipment is needed for installation. The only equipment needed is a licensed storage magazine for the product (see licensing below for more details).

• Will I need special training?
  

  Yes. Every user of the IMPLO product will need to successfully pass a specialized training program provided by BURNDY®. This training teaches the basic essentials of handling explosives, applicable governing regulations, safe handling practices, and the efficient installation of the product.

• What about licensing?
  

  Generally there are federal requirements associated with the handling and storage of IMPLO products. Every federal jurisdiction has its own licensing requirements, but most rules and regulations are fairly similar. State, provincial and/or local authorities may have additional requirements for the installation of IMPLO products.
  
  BURNDY assists customers with understanding the licensing needs for their specific applications. BURNDY provides a comprehensive installation and safety training program to every user of the IMPLO product. A certificate is issued to each candidate upon successful completion of the program, ensuring that workplace safety is maintained at the highest possible standards.
